BASKETBALL UPDATE WEEK #2

4th grade boys lost a close game to St. Joe’s Cockeysville. 5-2 but with only 5 healthy players on the floor, and a sub on the bench (very much under the weather), our Anchors fought hard and made a very close game of it, even keeping the score 0-0 into the 2nd half. Coach Bridget was very proud of our team, as they left it all on the floor, never giving up. Next meeting will be totally different. Mason Saraullo nailed a bucket to prevent the shutout.
5th grade girls in their first game of the season,  came up short against a talented St. Mark team by a score of 12-4.  Amelie Theodore tallied 4 points to lead the team. Coach Stavros sees lots of opportunity with this group and if you watch them play, it’s obvious they are a well-coached team.
6th grade boys met their toughest match in this young season facing an ICS team comprised of all 7th graders, not mention several tall trees with serious skills. Although the final score was 32-15, as it seems to be an Anchor M/O, we played hard for 28 minutes and after a halftime score of 16-0, we lost by only a point in the 2nd half, 16-15.  Anchor scoring saw 3-pointers by Timmy Mulligan, Niko Mathioudakis and Emerson Lawrence, while Cooper Dach added a bucket and Jackson Graham and Jack McCartney added a free throw each.
8th grade girls ran into an offensive buzzsaw at the hands of St. Ursula, 32-2. Thanks to Paige Purtell’s bucket, we avoided a scoreless game. Our shots just didn’t fall but we hung tough for 32 minutes.
8th grade boys, in their first game of the season, after playing a strong first half, 16-10, and unable to stop the barrage of “3s”, ended up in the “L” column, 40-16 to St. Mark. Cameron Stoner’s 6 points, Kobe Barrett’s 3, Chance Hayden and Jack Bailey pitched in 2 along with 2 assists to lead the team in scoring. Newcomer Treme Cannizzaro and Michael McMenamin dominated the boards with 14 rebounds and 12 rebounds respectively. Cameron Sibiski and Jaxson Basil chipped in with a couple steals on the defensive end.

We are attempting to put together a clinic for 3rd grade boys (we could possibly take some 2nd grade boys). We do need a SCS parent to assist two other Boy Scout Dads with this clinic. The clinic will meet once a week in our gym and learn basic basketball skills, rules and positioning. This would prepare them for next season to compete in the AOB/CYO league. If you and/or your child are interested, please call me at 410.804.7705 or email cdorsey@millmansearch.com
